Cinderella & Step Sibling
Descriptive Terms for each sister:
Step-sister : exclusive, rude, selfish, vicious, malicious
Cinderella : shy, kind, respectful, considerate, hard-working
Statement: I decided to put a unique spin on Cinderella (I changed the name to Sinderella) and put the characters in 2020 with us. From my memory of the movie these characters were very slim and tall so I chose figures that fit that description. Instead of dressing the characters for a ball I imagined what they would be wearing to a COVID-19 party. I based my look for the step-sibling off of modern Chinese-street fashion. I wanted her to have sharp elements in her look to highlight that vicious personality trait that I associate with her. These sharp features are apparent in the long blazer, sunglasses, and acrylic nails. For Cinderella I wanted her appearance to be dimmed and muted in contrast to her step-sibling, similar to the movie. This is why I’ve dressed her in baggy clothing that doesn’t accentuate her features (she should never pose a threat to her step-sibling). The other side of modern fashion is to wear name brand sweats (Nike and Adidas are the top two brands which is why they are featured in the hoodie and sweatpants). I also wanted the way that they are standing to speak for them. The step-sibling confidently brings her arm out and chooses a pose that will accentuate her figure whereas Cinderella shyly puts her arms behind her back and has a straighter stance.

Cinderella & Step Sibling 2.0
*Utilizing color, attempt reverse the original character designations of each drawing. This means Cinderella is now the step-sibling and step-sibling is now Cinderella.
When thinking about how I could use color to change the characters I wanted to use colors that were associated with having more money. For the stepsisters’ outfit, I felt the need to play her down and to mute her as much as possible since the outfit pieces make big statements. I tried to use the blandest colors I could think of and even made sure her mask looked like the classic, medical, disposable ones. For Cinderella I thought I should make it look like she could afford to have more color in her clothes, something that would pop, which is why I gave her the red and gold hoodie and the KN95 mask. Overall, my vision wasn’t really accomplished. I think it’s difficult to change the look just with color because the outfit and posture choices I made really speak for themselves, so color doesn’t make much of a difference.
