Career Day Reflection
- A description of where you completed your career day shadow, the person you shadow, and the career you shadowed. (An overall summary of what you did on career day) For my career day, I went to the Billboard Awards in Las Vegas. I shadowed my aunt, Jamila Hunter who works at ABC as the VP of comedy development. On career day I watched the different tasks many people took on that I never payed attention to, and how crucial each one was. I also observed my aunt on what would be a typical work day, and what kind of things she did.
- What was one thing you participated/observed that you enjoyed about the career you shadowed? Was there anything you participated/observed that you didn't like about the career you shadowed? I loved watching people do a job that is never really thought of, but the outcome is so popular. So many people watch TV but don't think of the people writing the show. To me it's amazing how people put everything together are able to impress such a wide audience. I observed my aunt doing a lot of screenplay editing and talking to people about ideas and critiques about new shows. I thought doing that seemed like a lot of fun, especially coming up with ideas with a group of people and trying to make it form into one thing.
- Was there anything you learned about the career you shadowed you didn't previously know would be a component of the career? I didn't know that my aunt was so hands on with the help of new shows. She is actively always talking to someone about fixing things or directing people to figure out problems. I wasn't aware how much she dealt with people, I thought she would mostly be on the computer or writing.
- Based on everything you observed and participated in on career day, is this a career you think you would like to pursue in the future? If so, why? If not, why and what is a career you think you might want to pursue in the future? I think this could be a potential career because being in comedy would be so much fun, and you would meet so many new and funny people. The job also has a lot of perks, and good pay. I do enjoy writing and critiquing, so I think because it follows my interest, this is definitely something I would be looking into.
